There are no muscles in the breasts; if they lose their youthful firmness, exercise is unlikely to restore it. Support is especially important during pregnancy. Throughout pregnancy the breasts become fuller. This and tingling nipples are, for many women, among the first indications of pregnancy. Common breast changes fall into several broad categories. These include generalized breast changes, solitary lumps, nipple discharge, and infection and/or inflammation. Mastalgia: Mastalgia is breast pain and is generally classified as either cyclical (associated with menstrual periods) or noncyclic. Noncyclic pain may come from the breast or may come from somewhere else, such as nearby muscles or joints, and may be felt in the breast. Pain can range from minor discomfort to severely incapacitating pain in some cases. Many women with mastalgia worry more about the consequences of cancer than about the pain itself. Breast pain alone is not an indicator of breast cancer.

Mastitis: Mastitis is an infection of the breast which most often occurs in breastfeeding mothers. The symptoms are pain, swelling and redness of the breast. Mastitis often affects mothers a few weeks after they give birth and can be a highly exhausting experience. Mastitis can also occur later during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mothers may sometimes be forced to wean their baby away because of the pain.

Nipple Discharge: In this condition fluid is discharge by the nipples when the mother is not breastfeeding. You can notice the discharge on either or both your nipples when you gently squeeze your nipples. A nipple discharge may look milky, or it may be yellow, or bloody and varies from being thick and sticky to thin and watery. There is no need to panic as cancer is seldom the underlying cause for such secretions. Consult your doctor to diagnose the reason for the condition.

Galactorrhea: This condition refers to milky discharge from the nipples that usually occur from both breasts. Galactorrhea is not a disease but may be a symptom or sign of an underlying problem. The adverse effects of certain medications and/or stimulating the breasts too often or excessively can lead to the condition.
Breast Cancer: Breast cancer is a cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast. It is a malignant tumor that starts from cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that may grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too. There are two main types of breast cancer:

• Ductal carcinoma starts in the tubes (ducts) that move milk from the breast to the nipple. Most breast cancers are of this type.

• Lobular carcinoma starts in the parts of the breast, called lobules, which produce milk.

Many early breast carcinomas may be asymptomatic; pain or discomfort is not usually a symptom of breast cancer. Breast cancer is often first detected as an abnormality on a mammogram before it is felt by the patient or healthcare provider. The general approach to evaluation of breast cancer has become formalized as triple assessment: clinical examination, imaging (usually mammography and/or ultrasonography), and needle biopsy.

Breast Lumps: Breast lumps are abnormal bulges or masses of tissue located anywhere in one or both breasts. These lumps may even extend up to the lower areas of the arms.

• It can be painful or painless lump.
